Another year gone!!

Wow! I can't believe how fast time has flown by! Especially since it is the end of April... So let me get y'all up to date on what has been happening with the Higham Clan over the past year and a half. -Sorry for lack of pictures.

2013
Well, we started out the year like any other. Taking down the tree and cleaning up the pine needles. That's always fun.... And always goes on, we still tend to find them even in May. My dad is still traveling a couple weeks of the month. Mom is still working at Camtec, and even picked up some hours at PK Auto Repair every Thursday and Friday afternoon. Alex is still working at Volkswagon, and Tara  is still going to school, and she is still working at Rescue Alert.

We went to the usual spots for camping last year. And it was still fun, we always have a blast going. Coming home and unpacking on the other hand kind of boring and puts a damper on your weekend. Especially when it is the mark of the next week of work. We were bummed because we didn't get the chance to go to Mill Hollow last year. I guess they had rotting trees and they were afraid of trees falling in campsites. So they did the smart thing and closed for the season. They will be open again this year(2014). We hope-knock on wood when I say that.

Alex and Tara have been having fun with Alex's Jeep, they go out every month or so to go Jeeping with the Jeep Guy. I don't think you could get them to stop going out so much. But they are having fun, and they always take amazing pictures. They still make a cute couple:)

Mom and Dad celebrated their 25th anniversary last year, and I was able to celebrate my 21st birthday. (Wait, that means I will be 22 in less then a month-yikes!) Dad's back is still bothering him but not as much as it has in the past. Which is good. Mom had her knees replaced in August for the first and October for the second. She is getting stronger every day. Though she still scares me when she goes up or down stairs. And slopes, I am always afraid that her knee will give out completely and she will go crashing down. But that is just the fear of a worry wart daughter. Can you blame me though?

As for me I ended up switching jobs. About 4 days before November I went in to apply at a place called HuHot Mongolian Grill (really good stir fry by the way). Well needless to say the interview went really well and I was hired that same day. I guess they really needed staff before we opened. We did open on November 1st, and we have been busy ever since. Sure we get bad reviews on yelp occasionally, but come in and asks some of our regular guests and they will probably tell you otherwise. I finished my 2 weeks at PETsMART  and left on good terms. I still am thinking about going back once or twice a week, but like I said still thinking. I love my new job and the friends I have made. And I miss all my friends at PETsMART.

Kids 10 and under eat free per paying adult.
Try the awesome build you own S'Mores!
My dad did get an elk last fall and he was sure proud, it's a 6*7 bull. And well the meat tastes great-sorry to the vegetarians.

Christmas came and went but we always have a blast going out and hunting down the tree.  Christmas day was amazing. We all received an awesome gift from the parents. Which would be season tickets to Desert Star! We have a blast every time we go! If you haven't been go! You will laugh till you cry, and it is family friendly!

2014
Well this year started the same with taking down the tree and hunting needles in our carpet. We were also able to use the season tickets and started going to the shows. The last we went to was Provo Cop(spoof of RoboCop) It had us in a fit of giggles that is for sure.

Mom and Dad have celebrated their 26th anniversary and they still know how have fun! I still love working at HuHot. It is a blast! This past week dad added a new decor to the house.

Well that is all I can think of for now. Hope all is well with your families!

With love,
Lindsey

2012 wrap-up

Hey everyone. So it has definitely been a while since we posted anything. Well lets get everyone up to date All of us have had a crazy year. So forgive us for not posting anything since 2011. (Sorry to all for not sending out Christmas cards. Like I said it was a crazy year, also I don't have a lot of pictures so please forgive me, and I ramble a lot, like this)

Anyway. In January, after taking down our beloved tree (that we all miss, at least until November when we get our new one), we started digging our way through 16 years worth of crap, and some memories, that we had stored in our basement so we could get it finished before Alex and Tara became Husband and Wife. For those of you that know us, that didn't happen. But I will get to that later. We started sorting and tossing before finally breaking down and renting a storage unit and well packing it full.

                                          The Bathroom

                                          The Bedroom

                                          The Bedroom again

                                           The Kitchen

                                           The family room part 1

                                          The family room part 2

February found us starting to set walls and figuring out just what we wanted to do with the floorplan. We tried several layouts and finally found one we could agree on. In the middle of the month we made a quick trip to St. George. March continued into framing and electrical and by the end of the month we had hired drywallers and a plumber and we were on our way! With six weeks to go, April dawned and the push began-along with the Parent of the Groom planning-I think my mom and dad are just glad that they didn't have to be parents of the bride. This time at least. ;D

                                           Some color!!!

April also brought a change to my dad's employment as he move from the "field" into the office at the elevator company. What a great thing that turned out to be for his back-there are still problems, but at least he doesn't have to carry his tools every where he goes. He also had a little bit more strength at the end of the day to accomplish some work in the basement and spend some time with his family. The one major downside though is that he has to travel a couple weeks out of each month. My mom is not exactly a big fan of that. (This year she will be able to go with him once a month).

May brought the wedding and we officially welcomed Tara into our family and our home-literally, into the basement. We finish up (mostly) the basement a day after they returned from their Honeymoon. There are still doorknobs we need to buy and blinds and a couple other things to finish up, but it is livalbe and it really turned out pretty nice.

                                           Jim, Tara, Lori
                                          Alex and Marty (Sorry bro)
Braeden or Braden (not sure of the spelling)
                                          Lindsey, Tara, Julia, Malory
                                          Sariah
                                           Husband and Wife at last!!

Julia, Tara, Jim, Lori, and Alex
                                           The Higham's

In June we traveled to Bear Lake area for the Jay & Verda Welling family reunion where we camped at my cousin's house in Bloomington ID and spent a few days enjoying family company. July and August passed in a haze and suddenly it was fall again-my moms grow box gardens that Alex and my dad built for 2 years ago kicked into production and we had tomatoes growing out of our ears along with a couple of pumpkins, some really weird cucumbers, tiny little green peppers, and my favorite zuchinni and some tasty snow peas for mom and Tara. September and October kept us all busy with our jobs and thinking about finishing clearing out the items from the basement that only made it as far as the living room. With that accomplished (finally) November brought us to our annual Wendover trip to get our "little" $3 Christmas Tree.

                                                    Tara and her chain saw
                                                    On the mountain
                                                    In our Tree room
                                                    On Alex's truck

That's the yearly rundown-now a personal update... As mentioned, my dad moved from the Service Department into the Service Supervision position in his office, "dropping" his Union Card and joining the ranks of the dress pants wearing brigade. He still works for the same company, just a few more hours and a little more traveling again. As for my mom. She has now been at her job for almost 6 years-most days she really likes it, but one of her bosses left the company reducing her hours to part time. Which I think she is ok with. Especially since she can travel with my dad.

Alex started the year working at AutoZone and finishing up his Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) courses and graduated in April, a couple weeks before he got married. He is currently applying with various departments in the Salt Lake area and working at Southe Town Volkswagon. His beautiful bride (and my amazing sister), Tara, is going to school and working at Rescue Alert. As you can guess, they are a couple of busy newlyweds and are totally in love and happily oblivious!

As for me, well I started working at Petsmart back in March and I love it. But then again I get paid to pet puppies so who wouldn't love it? I may complain about the early morning shifts but I finally got used to it, until they threw the curve balls. Now I get random shifts at any given time of day or night. So far there are 2 of the guys from my group that have come home from their missions. I have more coming back this year and 1 leaving for her mission. I am taking the next couple of semesters off to save up for school. With the whole school thing I did manage to earn enough credits to get the first certificate in Institute. I don't have it but I did earn it. For those that are always asking me about my love life. There is no one in it. I am just focusing on work right now. Although I have gone on one very interesting date with a guy I have known since Elementary school. For the trips I did make it to last summer, they were all way fun. I loved seeing family that I only get to see about once a year.

We had an awesome year and have been truly blessed with amazing family and friends, a roof over our heads and two psycho dogs. We want to take this chance to thank you all for being a part of our lives and hope to get to communicate better this coming year than we have the last year.  As we grow older we realize that it’s family and friends that are the true gifts in our lives.

We love you all and hope this year is amazing for everyone.

Love the Higham Family
